Know, Live, Share Jesus

The Haines Presbyterian Church is located in one of the most beautiful settings in the world, where snow-capped mountains reach the sea. Presbyterian missionaries first brought the light of the gospel of Jesus Christ into this remote valley in 1881. About 1,700 people live in the town of Haines, Alaska and about 2,500 live in the Haines Borough, which is bigger in size than Delaware. Every fall, the largest gathering of bald eagles in the world happens in our valley, and eagles often outnumber people.

Haines is surrounded by numerous rivers, lakes, and scenic mountains which rise from the sea. Moose and brown bears (grizzly) populate this valley. Haines is located near the northern end of the Inside Passage, about 80 miles northwest of Juneau. We have ferry and small plane connections to Juneau, plus year-round road access to Canada, interior Alaska, and the lower 48 states. In summer, tourists pass through Haines via cruise ships and RVs. In the late winter, Haines is known for its world class  heli-skiing, and with the many opportunities for outdoor activities, it is known as the Adventure Capital of Alaska.

Our congregation includes people from every walk of life and many denominational backgrounds. Out of this diversity, we find unity and commitment in Jesus Christ, Our Lord. We believe that all people are created in the image of God and affirm that the love and grace of God is available to all. No matter who you are or where you are on life’s journey, you are welcome here.

We encourage children to remain in worship. At any time during the service, children and parents are welcome to visit the Children’s Space at the back of the sanctuary where rocking chairs, children’s books, and toys are available. We also have a Children’s Church time downstairs during the sermon for ages preschool to 3rd grade.

Ministry in Haines can be challenging due to our remote location, and with the challenge come many opportunities and rewards. We have a significant outreach to the young people of Haines. 80-90 children, most of them unchurched, attend our summer VBS. Our mid-high and high school youth group averages 20-25 unchurched young people a week. We partner with Echo Ranch Haines (formerly Rainbow Glacier Camp), a rustic camp for young people 8 miles from the church.

We invite you to join with us in our ministry in Haines!
